Backyard Camping & Camp Fun

Ask anyone what they remember about a camping trip and it won’t be the tent. It’ll be the evening. Somebody’s terrible ghost story, a game that went on far too long, the part where everyone was laughing at nothing at eleven o’clock.

That’s what this section is for. Games that need nothing at all, or a pack of cards, or one torch, because at the end of a long day nobody is assembling equipment. Enough of them that a rained-in afternoon in a tent doesn’t become four people silently on their phones.

And stories. Ours are written for this site rather than lifted off the internet, and each one carries a fright rating, because telling the wrong one to a nine-year-old makes for a very long night.

There’s a practical reason the backyard is in the name. Pitching the tent at home and running a whole evening in it is the cheapest rehearsal there is for a real trip. You find out what you forgot while the kitchen is twenty feet away, and the kids get a night out that costs nothing.
